IEC 61850 · IEC 60870-5-104 · source-licensed
Protocol software for the substation — source code included.
SPWAY builds the IEC 61850 and IEC 60870-5-101/103/104 stacks that run inside protection relays, RTUs, protocol gateways and test sets. Every stack is delivered as source code, and every test tool is built from the same kernel — since 2009.

Three ways teams work with us
Most conversations start with one of these. Each path has its own product family, and the three share one protocol implementation.
Build
Put 61850 inside your device
Link EmbedCore-v5 into a relay, bay controller or converter and publish your data as a standard MMS server. Typically one to two weeks for a conventional device, with modelling tooling included so you do not need a dedicated 61850 engineer.
Prove
Test what you built, before the customer does
IED Checker runs the clause 10 server cases against your device; Substation Checker simulates a station against your master; the analyzer shows the bytes when a channel misbehaves. Reports are exportable as acceptance annexes.
Bridge
Connect old plant to a new master
The 101/103/104 stack in master, outstation and proxy roles, or the SPW860-8X unit on site, maps 101, 103, 104, Modbus, CDT and 61850 to each other without rewriting every bay.
Products
Eight lines, all delivered with documentation and sample projects. Ask for the datasheet of any of them.
IED side
Turn a conventional protection or bay controller into a compliant IEC 61850 IED in one to two weeks.
- Full MMS service set in both roles
- Built-in 61850 modelling for protection and measurement
- Dual-network / dual-host redundancy, GOOSE publish and subscribe
Client side
Bring up to 200 IEDs into your master station or gateway with a few lines per device.
- Designed for 200+ IEDs per station, 10,000+ attributes each
- Model import or automatic discovery to build the device directory
- Millisecond-level data change response when system resources allow
Telecontrol
One code base for serial telecontrol, protection information and TCP/IP SCADA links — plus the tester that ships with it.
- Three standards, one code base, three roles
- Point-table generator: Excel/CSV to information-object addresses and C code
- Fault injection and clause-level conformance reports
Diagnostics
When a channel "occasionally drops a point", this is the tool that tells you which side did it.
- Decode tree from frame to information object, with point-table linkage
- Anomaly detection: sequence jumps, stNum/sqNum problems, length mismatches, negative acknowledgements
- One-click HTML/Word/PDF report suitable as an acceptance annex
Test suite
Every MMS server test case in IEC 61850 clause 10, run exhaustively against your device.
- All IEC 61850 clause 10 MMS server test cases
- Error scenarios: bad parameters, invalid objects, type errors, range errors, abnormal termination
- Limit scenarios: maximum read/write responses per second, maximum report throughput, log storage capacity
Test suite
Simulate one IED or two hundred, then see whether your master station keeps up.
- All clause 10 MMS client test cases
- Automatic data verification and timeliness checks on the substation side
- Data-storm and network-interruption scenarios
Engineering tool
Draw the primary single-line diagram; get a valid IEC 61850 SSD model out of the same file.
- Graphic modelling: the SSD is generated while the diagram is drawn
- Import a standard SSD and regenerate an editable diagram
- Logic node library linked to primary equipment, with virtual terminal tables
Hardware
One box that speaks 101, 102, 103, 104, Modbus, CDT and IEC 61850 — in either direction.
- 101, 102, 103, 104, Modbus, CDT and 61850 MMS/GOOSE in one device
- Master, outstation and remote-control-transparent modes
- Linux platform, Ethernet + CAN + RS-485 + RS-232 interfaces
Why source code changes the conversation
A protocol stack is the part of your device that the customer's acceptance test attacks. With a binary-only licence, a deviation on site becomes a support ticket and a release schedule you do not control. With source, it becomes a patch you can make this afternoon.
- Audit and patch. The ASN.1 encoder, the reporting state machine and the timer handling are all readable, and can be adapted when a third-party master or IED does something the standard allows but the tests do not expect.
- One kernel, two roles. The development stack and the conformance testers are the same implementation in opposite roles. What passes in the lab is what ships.
- Bare metal is a target, not a port. The 101/103/104 stack trims to the low hundreds of kilobytes without a third-party runtime, and the 61850 library runs over RTOS, Linux, Unix and VxWorks with matching endianness support.
- Point tables, not hand-written addresses. Excel, CSV or database in; information-object addresses and generated C code out.
- Fixed-scope licensing. Source, project files, API manual, sample projects and the tool set, licensed per project, with no per-unit royalty on your own product line.
We publish performance figures (throughput, concurrent links, time-stamp accuracy) rather than adjectives. Where a figure matters to your acceptance criteria, ask us to reproduce it against your point count before you quote it onward.
