Solutions by role

The same product line is used very differently by a relay manufacturer, a substation integrator, a test laboratory and an operations team doing a retrofit. These are the four patterns we see most often.

Device vendor

Make a conventional device 61850-capable

A protection or measurement device already works on the primary side; what is missing is the station-bus interface. EmbedCore-v5 plus the ICD tool turns the existing data model into an MMS server, typically in one to two weeks, and the same library can act as a client for downstream devices.

Integrator

Build a gateway that survives a station

A station gateway has to hold 200+ IEDs, keep each one isolated, and translate to a control centre over 104. StationCore provides the client side with per-device worker threads; the 101/103/104 stack provides the telecontrol link, sharing one point table.

Test & acceptance

Produce evidence, not opinions

Factory acceptance, site acceptance and type approval all need clause-level evidence. IED Checker and Substation Checker produce it for the two roles; the analyzer produces the byte-stream evidence when a channel fails and both sides disagree.

Retrofit

Keep the bays, change the master

When a station with 101, 103 or CDT outstations gets a new 104 or 61850 master, the mapping belongs in a gateway rather than in every bay. SPW860-8X does it on site; the same kernel lets you build your own unit.

Every path above is covered by the same source-licensed kernel. If your project mixes two of them — a device vendor that also ships a gateway, for instance — one licence discussion can usually cover both.

Describe your project

Device, protocols, platform, deadline. We will map it to a product line and tell you honestly if something does not fit.
