SPW860-8X — protocol converter and communication unit

One box that speaks 101, 102, 103, 104, Modbus, CDT and IEC 61850 — in either direction.

An industrial communication unit for distribution automation, substation retrofits and industrial data acquisition. Protocols are configuration items rather than separate products, and any supported protocol can be mapped to any other — 104 to 61850, Modbus to 104, CDT to 61850, and so on.

Protocol options

Each unit is configured with the protocol set the site needs. Because the same box can be a master on one port and an outstation on another, it also works as a protocol-level bridge between an older telecontrol channel and a modern station bus.

  • Modbus — serial and Ethernet
  • CDT
  • IEC 60870-5-101 master and outstation
  • IEC 60870-5-102 master and outstation
  • IEC 60870-5-103 master and outstation, including Ethernet variants
  • IEC 60870-5-104 master, outstation and combined telecontrol mode
  • IEC 61850 GOOSE
  • IEC 61850 MMS client and MMS server
  • IEC 61850 MMS pass-through and remote control

Where it earns its place

Retrofit is the usual case: a substation with 101 or CDT outstations and a new 104 or 61850 master needs a mapping device rather than a rewrite of every bay. The same applies in the other direction when a modern IED has to feed an older control centre.

Frequently asked

Can both ends be different protocols?

Yes — that is the point. Supported protocols can be converted to each other, with the point mapping configured per project.

Is this a development kit or a finished product?

A finished product. The same protocol kernel is also available as the source-licensed SDKs if you would rather build your own hardware.

Can the protocol set be changed later?

The protocol set is selectable at order time and configured on site; tell us the target mix and we will confirm what the unit can hold.
